October 5 – Since mid-September Mars, Venus and Mercury have been in the morning sky. Mercury is quickly disappearing back toward the Sun. Mars, which has been lower in the sky is stepping away from the Sun rising higher day by day as the Earth slowly catches up to it. Venus, which has been near its highest point away from the rising Sun is now turning and beginning to move back toward the Sun. On the morning of October 5th Venus and Mars pass a mere .2 degrees apart. Brilliant white Venus and dull red Mars will make a beautiful pairing in the sky that morning. Until then, watch from morning to morning as they step closer and closer to each other.
