Free Constellation Star Wheel

Students cut out and assemble a paper star wheel that they can use to find the constellations.

Directions:  Cut out the star wheel and the star finder holder.  Fold the holder per the instructions and tape the tabs.  Place the star wheel inside the pouch so the stars can be seen through the window.  Spin the wheel until the date is lined up with the time you are observing.  In the example on the left April 1 is lined up with 9pm, so this is the sky at 9pm on April 1st.  (it is also the same sky as Dec. 15th at 4am!).  Then students take it outside and hold it over their heads with north pointing north.

Note: The star wheel is designed for mid-northern latitudes.
