If you look to the southwest as the sky begins to grow dark this Christmas season you’ll see a bright ‘star’ in the sky. The ‘star’ is the planet Venus. Venus is the brightest star-like object in our sky and is usually referred to the morning or evening star.
Venus, in its smaller orbit, has been slowly catch up to the Earth and as it grows closer it will also grow brighter in our sky. At the same time, as seen below, it will climb higher into the evening sky. It won’t reach it’s highest or brightest in the western sky until after the new year. Even so, as you’re out this Christmas season enjoy the brilliant Christmas star and remember the gift that was given – Jesus, the light of the world.
